Well, this weekend is the time to take advantage of the Tennessee Tax Free Weekend. Today marks the beginning of our seventh Tax Free Weekend in Tennessee. Back to school related items such as school supplies, clothing and computers are exempt from our hefty 9.25% sales tax. Any individula item that qualifies for a tax exemption must be under $100 and for computers under $1500. So if you were planning on sneaking in a pair of new Frye boots you can forget that! For a list of eligible items you can visit the Tennessee Department of Revenue’s website.
The Tax Free Holiday 2012 officially starts at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 3rd and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 5th. If you want to find national retailers then you can head to West Town Mall and Knoxville Center Mall which have extended their Friday and Saturday hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m and on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Or if you want to fight the traffic for the possibility of larger savings then head on up to Tanger Outlets in Sevierville (Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m). Of course, I suggest you shop LOCAL and visit retailers such as Planet Xchange (they have a 50% off denim sale for the weekend).
What to expect: Lots of special Tax Free sales, long lines, and 9.25% less to spend on purchases!!
Where it will be: Businesses in Tennessee from Friday August 3rd-Sunday August 5th
What to bring: Money, good walking shoes, cloth shopping bags (c’mon and be green) and patience!
