The quaint nabe of West Hills was developed post WWII. It’s origins which stemmed from multiple parcels of farmland can still be seen today in the lush greenery that still abounds in the neighborhood. The houses in the area are primarily brick ranch style homes while several have significant architectural heritage. The first home built in West Hills was the Hotpoint Living-Conditioned House built by renowned architect Bruce McCarty and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. McCarty’s influence also extended to the all concrete, Stockton Dr. House, and his designs set the tone for the neighborhood. The houses are generally brick ranchers situated on large lots, with ample front an back yards, plenty of hardwood trees and typically range from 1200-2200 square feet in size.
Many would say that West Hills is conveniently located in the heart of West Knoxville. The nabe is right off the major road Kingston Pike which flows from East to West through the city. Less than 1 mile from West Town Mall, multiple restaurants, and convenient access to parks and greeways this nabe lets you be in the middle of the city yet it feels like you are still somewhere on the VanOsdale farm.
Best of the Nabe:
EAT: Che Guevara, Soccer Taco, MOOYAH, Brixx
SEE: West Hills Park, YMCA, Jean Teague Greenway
SHOP: Planet Xchange, West Town Mall, McKay Used Bookstore, Bliss Home Store
